"It's a troublesome world.   All the people who're in it are troubled with troubles almost every minute.  You ought to be thankful, a whole heaping lot, for the places and people you're lucky your not."  Dr. Seuss  Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are?

I am not a believer in luck, but I thought this quote was quite memorable.  I believe in Divine Providence and give God glory for all in my life.  That being said, I still believe this quote rings true.  So often we can become burdensome in our outlook on life.  We complain and grumble and drag others into our pits of despair.  Yes, our complaints may be legitimate and our pain razor sharp, yet, we need to be able to look around and observe the lives of others.  It is so necessary to try and keep perspective and we can only achieve this by looking outside of ourselves.

We won't have to look far to meet someone that is experiencing something that makes us mumble, "I am so glad I have never had to go through that."  Or, we may encounter an individual experiencing a pain we are all too familiar with and we can choose to encourage and lift them up, drawing from a shared experience.

Getting out of ourselves can help us to find things in our lives to thankful for and this can make all the difference.  Thankfulness and hope go hand in hand.  Thankfulness points us to God and it is through Him that we begin to find peace through our own struggles.  But, this thankfulness comes from having a true perspective of one's life and we can only do this if we are taking note of those that are suffering around us.

I know that when I start to feel sorry for myself, there is a sure fire way to knock it off.  I pray for those that are hurting around me.  I don't have room in my heart to feel sorry for myself if I am praying for others.  My heart is transformed through this prayer and I am able to forget myself as I grieve with and for others through prayer.

I pray that you are able to find something to be thankful for today.   I pray that you will be infused with hope fed from this thankfulness as you continue on your journey.  I pray that you will trust, not only God's presence, but love as you wade through your pain today.  I pray you will be victorious in the Lord over what is grieving you.

"You shall rejoice in all the good things the Lord your God has given you and your household."  Deut. 26:11

  1. I can sit right here and name things to be thankful for and never run out. I could easier count the stars in the sky or the sand on the shore than to count His blessings to me. The Lord is Great and greatly to be praised. AMEN!

  2. Dear Denisa what a beautiful post for today and how right you are. I am sitting here typing feeling sorry for myself because my hands are burning so badly for cutting and preparing peppers for pepper jelly. Yes I have done everything I know to soothe the burning. I decided to read from my blogs for awhile and came across your post. I began to pray for those on my prayer list and you in particular, since I know you were having more pleurisy pain from the effects of the pneumonia. I pray that today is a better day for you. Blessings
