Seasons

I am happy to report that things are finally getting back to normal here on the homefront, or at least as close to normal as we can manage.  Usually we complain about Mondays, but this Monday stands as beacon for me, offering encouragement and hope that God is in control and "life" can be accomplished.

I am so happy to report that I am no longer feeling any leftover symptoms from the pneumonia.  My nervous system was shot after being so sick for so long and I had a horrible bout of shaking.  I shook to the point that I was afraid to walk for any distance because I felt like I could pass out.  It was an experience that left me feeling quite unnerved.  I was beginning to wonder if I would spend the rest of my pregnancy just struggling to move around the house.

I have been struggling from severe nausea this pregnancy and that was adding to our struggle with getting me back into full swing again.  Thankfully my OB prescribed some amazing medicine and it has helped immensely.  I am hopeful that as the pregnancy progresses, by nausea will decrease or even disappear.  However, I am cautiously optimistic, because with one of my pregnancies, I was sick for the whole nine months.  This was the time in our marriage when my husband finally had to give in and learn how to cook.  He had sworn off cooking for most of our marriage, but seeing the depth of my struggle to even be around food, he finally caved.  I am happy to report that he makes a killer spaghetti (when he isn't experimenting with odd spices, like cinnamon or celery seed).

Today was our first day of school.  With our heath issues and having visitors at the end of the summer, I had to postpone our official start date.  The first half of our day has gone really well.  The kids are having a play break out back and we will soon finish off the day.  This year is going to stretch me in new ways.  All of my 6 active learners are in very different places, despite several of them being very close in age.  I'm praying the ideas will flow from me as the days add up so that we can squeeze the most out of each day.

I am super happy to report that summer has finally left!!  It was almost 90 degrees yesterday and I was beginning to think we were going to miss fall completely!  I woke up today to true fall temperatures.  It has been odd to see the leaves falling from my trees and the days heating up into the high 80's.  It has been so unseasonably warm that my pea and tomato plants have begun to flower again.  Never thought I would see that in Montana.  I enjoy having four distinct seasons and don't enjoy hot and long summers.  Yes, I know that there are millions out there that do, but I am not one of you.  I enjoy the snow and rain and even though I love sunshine as well, I prefer it in the mid 70's.  I also enjoy those cold, crisp days of winter when there is snow on the ground, a snap in the air and sunshine making the snow sparkle.  I really enjoy snowy days.  I love waking up to 2 feet of snow.  Admittedly, I am always a bit sad when the snow falls only while I am asleep because  I love to sit in front of a window and watch the snow fall as a cuddle under a warm blanket with a good book or even my wandering mind.

Spring puts a smile on my face as well.  I love seeing the buds of spring flowers push themselves up through the snow.  I love spring rains and puddles to splash in.  I'm not keen on all the mud from melting snow, but the promise of new life is exhilarating.  I love tilling the land and sowing seeds.

I enjoy the crinkly leaves of fall and the way they sound as they blow down the street.  The smells of autumn are invigorating and energizing.  I am a girl of all seasons.  Just not the long hot spells that can come with summer.

I am going to learn a new hand craft starting this week.  I am going to try and teach myself how to crochet.  I am very excited.  I tried teaching myself to knit, but that was a complete failure.  I will need someone to teach me how to knit, so it will go on the back burner for now.  I'm hoping that my attempt at crocheting will be successful.  I'll keep you posted and maybe one day, in the near future, I will be able to post photos.

I pray you all have a wonderful day and are enjoying another new season that God so beautifully designed.

  1. That was a very inspiring and descriptive writing for today. I can imagine all the kiddos, since we raised six, but I can't imagine the home schooling. I do hope you get to feeling better soon from the nausea, that is so hard especially with an already full house and plenty to do. Good luck on the crocheting. I have been doing it since I was 18. Need any help let me know. I am doing 4 afghans and 2 ponchos for grands for Christmas. Blessings
